SEASON 57 Review
Had to play better at the end of the season to make the top 6 to earn sponsorship cash. Unfortunately that put me into the playoffs which thankfully we lost. Prefer to be outside the 1st division and ideally positions 7-10 to avoid end of season playoffs.
We continued on training up our 5 x age 2 lads and had a decent season - never setting the heather on fire but enjoying it nevertheless. In the CECIL Cup we didn't perform well, and in the SESL Cup we got to the knockouts easily enough, buit suffered a last 16 defeat. Not much to celebrate, but I worked at the reviews I did for the full season (as most of the other managers decided not to take on the 2nd half of ther season and make a few shekels for their clubs). I made a decent income - frightening/annoying a few teams to the extent the decision appears to have been made to cut the reviews and cut off extra earnings some of us deserved. I believe the majority didn't object but the tail wagged the dog here. Upset, darn right I am - watch this space.
SEASON 58 Preview
Our Bosman is again going to be a defender, Erich Shaedler age 1/12 who will be trained up to give us more cover at the back -although we don't traditionally lose a lot of goals. We will have only 3 x age 1 players to start with so will be bringing in an apprentice at game 10. Could do with an older high SL forward to be there to give our 2 age 3 x SL26s a rest. Interesting season coming up - looking forward to it.
Season 58 Update: Hitting 78 on Hogmanay and already having stopped my free TV licence the muppets in government have taken away my winter fuel payment too. Doesn't matter - nobody actually used it for heating - more Xmas and holidays. Receiving a 2 year course of hormone injections - not much fun there, trust me - for my prostate cancer. Moved down to Vice Chairman at the on site Social Club, and still acting as Match Secretary at the bowling club but not actually in the job (saves me 12 monthly meetings a season - club is around 15 miles from my house). My daughter and grandson have a new puppy - 7 months now - he plays for me in OASL - and he had a good 1st game last Wednesday.
Got a great partner, Karin, who like me, have assured our kids of a future when we go, and so am lining up cruises and short breaks. Watch sports and westerns/war films, and as much older comedy, where blatant swearing isn't obligatory - especially amongst so called funny women.
Scotland have a 2 game playoff to go somewhere (A Division I believe) but lets hope they don't bottle it like the women did v Finland. I still like chess, history, and books (mainly historical fiction). If I wanted to read current fiction I would read the Mirror, Record, Sun etc
